<3 (Smaller than three) <\/strong>is a contemporary circus, visual and sound art work. It deconstructs notions of the hula hoop and expands expectations of the bodies and stage presence of hoop performers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The stage is filled with different shapes of plastic tubes, spirals and sculptural piles. Three performers move around the stage in strange ways of their own devising, performing unconventional hoop and plastic manipulations. The fourth wall comes tumbling down. A video projected on the floor of the stage engages the movement of the bodies. The performers are themselves on stage: identifiable, awkward, funny, kitschy, sentimental, strong, whatever. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show is a celebration of outrageous freedom, the joy of absurdity and the power of connection – both between the audience and the performers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<In 3, the audience enters the stage through an installation built in the lobby of the performance space.<\/strong> In the installation, video artworks introduce the audience to the world and themes of the work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022, <<3 was selected to represent Finland in circusnext<\/a>, a Europe-wide development project for the circus art field. circusnext<\/em> provides international touring opportunities and supports the artistic and production development of contemporary circus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Puppetry artist Anna Nekrassova has also participated in developing the piece. Local artists are invited to participate in the immersive version, whenever possible. Circus artist Hanna Pikkarainen and visual artist Tanja Koistinen took part in the demo presented in Kolari in 2022.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
