The Life and Death is the baby of RecLab’s artistic directors Sofi Häkkinen and Miradonna Sirkka. It reflects the pair’s unique way of seeing the world, where the everyday becomes surreal and humor and vulnerability coexist.

The Life and Death combines elements of performance art, DJ & VJ gigs, and growing up as a teenager in the 00s. The performance is a critique of hetero- and mono-normativity, as well as capitalist perfectionism. Queerdot Häkkinen and Sirkka build a shared moment full of weirdness, fun, horror, play, love and tears – mischievously carnivalising the aesthetics of coolness associated with club culture. The artist couple poured everything from their souls into The Life and Death: frustration, joy, sex, humour, broken hearts and all that other disgusting shit. ;)

The performance makes visible and redeems the hypersexualisation to which afab bodies are subjected in everyday life. The duo takes matters into their own hands using aspects of popular culture, film, media and music. The performance was born out of the pure joy and pleasure of making art, although one important spark are the cases when the artists’ work has been criticized for “showing” tits on stage, for example. When the artist just stands still and doesn’t show anything.

The performance is for adults.
